Paris is the capital of France and has been a key city for more than 2000 years. Paris is often called by its nicknames of either the city of lights or the city of love. Today, we find Paris as a leading center for fashion, business, art and culture, and entertainment. There are many beautiful Paris tourist attractions throughout the city including cathedrals, landmarks, and museums.
Perhaps the number one attraction in the city of Paris is the Eiffel Tower. Anyone who has an opportunity to visit this historic and beautiful city needs to visit this number one tourist attraction. The Eiffel tower is located in the Champ de Mars Park and this unique iron structure was built for the 1889 World Exposition. The Eiffel Tower is considered one of the world’s most photographed attractions and it offers its visitors beautiful photographs both during the night and day. A visitor can take a ride up the elevator to experience the incredible views. There is also two fine restaurants that are situated within the tower.
Another well-known destination when visiting Paris is the Louvre. It is ranked as the most visited museum in the world. The museum is located within the Louvre Palace which is known for its glass pyramid which marks the entrance. This outstanding museum houses a collection of more than 1 million objects. Some of the more famous objects that it contains are Michelangelo’s “Venus of Milo ” and “Dying Slave”. You can also see the famous portrait from Leonardo da Vinci, Mona Lisa. There are many other popular exhibits that include paintings from Rembrandt and other famous artists.
The Arc de Triomphe is another popular tourist attraction in the beautiful city of Paris. The structure was built in 1806 to memorialize some of the many victories of Napoleon Bonaparte. The structure stands 148 feet wide by 164 feet high. The pillars have lists of engraved names of many of the men who died while fighting for the infamous Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. There is also the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I which is located beneath the arch.
A trip to Paris should also include a visit to the world-famous Notre Dame Cathedral. This impressive cathedral has two lofty towers and a spire that stands more than 400 feet high. It is an excellent example of French Gothic architecture. While visiting this amazing structure you will be allowed to admire many of the awe-inspiring rose windows, beautiful sculptures, Gothic carvings, and a unique collection of relics.
The Luxembourg Gardens is a public park in Paris that offers a visitor a casual stroll or picnic experience. There are formal gardens, fruit orchards, and beautiful lawns that include many fountains and artistic statues. For the sports enthusiast this beautiful garden area includes tennis courts, jogging paths, and fitness equipment. Children will enjoy playing in the huge playground and there are sailboat models in a pond, pony rides, and puppet shows. This park offers everything for the family.
There are many more Paris tourist attractions that a visitor to this remarkable city should try to see. Unfortunately, a short visit will not allow you to see and experience true flavor of this historic city and therefore if you have the opportunity to spend some extra time in the city of lights, you should do so.
